Montepulciano DOC (description)

Montepulciano is an Italian red grape & wine.

It must not be confused with the similar named Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, that takes the name from the village where it is produced, which base is mainly Sangiovese. Let’s think to the fact that Montepulciano grapes are not even planted in the vineyards around the village of Montepulciano!!

Montepulciano is widely planted in Central & Southern Italy and, when fully ripened, Montepulciano can produce a  deep red & full-bodied wine.

Montepulciano is Italy's second most widely indigenous grape variety, after Sangiovese.

Montepulciano is exported abroad in huge quantities. Montepulciano is very appreciated and with a good structure to the taste. Montepulciano wine has prominent spicy hints, with strong sensations of mulberry & morello. Montepulciano is very tannic & full-bodied.

Montepulciano is grown in Abruzzo, region in central-eastern Italy, in all the four provinces of this region: Chieti, Pescara, L’Aquila & Teramo. Montepulciano can also be produced in as a rosé and, in this case, is labeled as Cerasuolo D’Abruzzo.
