Chianti is maybe the most famous Italian red still wine in the world. Chianti is also an area of Tuscany, made famous by the wine with the same name.
There are 7 sub-regions of Chianti DOCG: Chianti Classico, Rufina (that are the most famouse ones) Colli Aretini, Montalbano, Chianti Colli Fiorentini, Chianti Colli Senesi, Chianti Colline Pisane.
Mid-nineteenth Century, Baron Ricasoli created Chianti’s Recipe, as follow: 70% Sangiovese; 15% Canaiolo and the remaining 15% White Malvasia.
The use of white grapes for Chianti has then been prohibited. For a wine to retain the name of Chianti, it has to be produced with 80% Sangiovese grapes (at least).
When you say “Chianti” you think of the “Chianti wine” and, more generally to the Italian Wine.
