Pinot (description)

The word Pinot, which comes from the word meaning "Pine Cone" in French, indicates nowadays a white or black wine grape variety of the species Vitis vinifera.
Talking about the most famous one, Pinot Gris, it grows in Italy is known as Pinot Grigio and can be found in the Lombardy region around Oltrepo Pavese and in Alto Adige, althoug the grape of Pinot Grigio is also prominent in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region.
The Pinot Grigio style of Italy is often a lean wine, light in color and light-bodied, sometimes can also be acidic & crisp.
Pinot Grigio is considered an "early to market wine" that can be bottled out on the market within 4–12 weeks after fermentation.
The grape Pinot Grigio grows best in cool climates, and matures relatively early with high sugar levels. Blends of Pinot gris may have a variety of colors in the vine. These blends can range from pinkish brown to bluish grey.
Pinot Grigio is often blended with Pinot noir to enrich and lighten the Pinot noir's flavor.

But also we can find Pinot Nero, created predominantly from Pinot Nero grapes.
Pinot Noir/Pinot nero grapes are grown around the world. In Italy, Pinot nero  has traditionally been cultivated in the Alto Adige, Collio Goriziano, Oltrepò Pavese and Trentino regions to produce Burgundy-style red wines.
Pinot Noir/Pinot Nero is also made in white & used as a base (or alone) for many Sparkling & Spumante wines, and also for famous Champagne, in blending with Chardonnay & Pinot Meun.
